From the recording High Desert Emmaline
Here’s a song Lewis and Josh wrote a couple of years ago. High Desert Emmaline is a song about getting older and reflecting on an adventurous life that's left one weathered and battered, but still admired by fellow travelers. Josh and Lewis wrote this one afternoon during the pandemic, loosely as a tribute to a friend, complete with 1970's references and nod to Sin City. We recorded this last week. Lewis and Josh are on guitars and vocals. Bill Ferri is on bass and Curt Redding is holding down the drums and added some shaker, tambo and background vocals too. This tune felt appropriate to add just a tinge of hoedown vibe. Josh threw in a little mandolin and long-time collaborator and friend Derek Pell returns again with some wonderful fiddle. Casey Eood at The Insanery engineered, mixed, mastered and co-produced it with us.
Lyrics
High Desert Emmaline
Where I am again nobody cares or knows
Wonderin’ how I lost these years
Over this mountain, the Colorado river flows
I wish this rock could dam my tears
Sunshine or the neon lights, whichever one is on
Squint your eyes and she might be gone
If you see her, you’ll know what I mean
Sweet Emmaline
In her dreams, a silver streak she glides
Sweet Emmaline
In the glass, I see the valleys on my face
They testify to all my fears
I won’t break, I’m strong and to my freedom I’ll be placed
By a jury of peers
Sunshine or the neon lights, or whichever one is on
Squint your eyes and I might be gone
If you see her, you’ll know what I mean
Sweet Emmaline
In her dreams, a silver seed she flies
Sweet Emmaline
BRIDGE
If you see her, you’ll know what I mean
Sweet Emmaline
In her dreams, a silver streak she glides
Sweet Emmaline
If you see her, you’ll know what I mean
Sweet Emmaline
In her dreams, a silver seed she flies
Sweet Emmaline
